A chalazion is generally painless, slowly enlarging nodule on the eyelid formed by inflammation of the meibomian glands. It is basically a chronic granulomatous enlargement of the meibomian glands of the eye-lid.
The meibomian glands in the eyelid serve the purpose of lubricating the margins of the eyelids, by producing a layer of the tear.
Due to acute or subacute inflammation of the eyelid, which may be due to a stye, there occurs an obstruction of the duct of the meibomian gland, leading to retention of the tears and swelling of the lid.
चलेज़ियन (Chalazion) क्या है?
चलेज़ियन एक पेनलेस (दर्द रहित), धीरे-धीरे बढ़ने वाला गांठ (नोड्यूल) होता है, जो आंखों की पलक (Eyelid) पर बनता है। यह माइबोमियन ग्रंथियों (Meibomian Glands) में सूजन के कारण विकसित होता है। मूल रूप से, यह पलक की माइबोमियन ग्रंथियों का एक पुराना (क्रॉनिक) ग्रैनुलोमैटस इन्फ्लेमेशन है।
माइबोमियन ग्रंथियां और उनकी भूमिका
माइबोमियन ग्रंथियां पलक के किनारों को चिकनाई (lubrication) प्रदान करने का कार्य करती हैं। यह ग्रंथियां आंसू (tear film) की एक परत बनाती हैं, जो आंखों को नमी बनाए रखने में मदद करती है।
चलेज़ियन बनने का कारण
अगर पलक में तेज (acute) या हल्की (subacute) सूजन हो जाए, तो यह माइबोमियन ग्रंथियों की नलिकाओं (ducts) को बंद कर सकती है। यह सूजन अक्सर स्टाई (आंख की फुंसी) की वजह से भी हो सकती है।
जब माइबोमियन ग्रंथि की नलिका ब्लॉक (अवरोधित) हो जाती है, तो आंसुओं का प्रवाह रुक जाता है और पलक में सूजन (swelling) आ जाती है। यह सूजन धीरे-धीरे गांठ का रूप ले लेती है, जिसे चलेज़ियन कहा जाता है।
